Reduce, Reuse, Recycle - Making Carrier Bags
Objectives:
To make carrier bags from recycled paper.
Duration:
Two hours.
Materials:
Scrap paper, cardboard, string, glue and scissors.
Procedure:
1. Cut a piece of strong scrap paper measuring 20 cm by 40 cm.
2. Draw out dotted lines as shown in figure 1.
3. Fold the paper along the dotted lines.
4. Use glue to fasten points A and B.
5. Fold along the dotted line XY and open up the base.
6. Fold along the dotted lines PQ and ST. Use glue to fasten PQ and ST.
7. Open up the carrier bag.
8. Fold along the lines CD, EF, GH and IJ.
9. Cut a piece of cardboard of the same dimensions as the base and place it inside the bag.
10. Cut another two pieces of cardboard and place along the folds CG and EI.
11. Punch two holes each on the edge of CG and EI.
12. Attach string through the holes for the bag handles.

Going, Going, Gone
Objectives:
To investigate the value that members put on natural resources when they bid for them at an auction.
Duration:
One hour to play, one hour for discussion.
Materials:
A large number of tokens (e.g., rice grains, marbles, etc.) to represent money, something to bang a table with (like an auctioneer's hammer), cards or photographs to represent the commodities to be auctioned off.
Procedure:

To investigate the value that members put on natural resources when they bid for them at an auction.

One hour to play, one hour for discussion.
Materials:

Procedure:
- The items on sale at the auction are natural resources such as soil, air, water, animals, plants, light and warmth.
- Earth player is given 20 tokens with which they can bid for three items only.
- The auctioneer starts the proceedings. The items are auctioned one at a time.
- The starting value of each item could vary from one token to 10 tokens, depending on its importance as a natural resource.
- Players discuss the importance of each item to the environment.
- What were the most valued resources?
- Did anyone end up with no money?
