Reduce, Reuse, Recycle - Making Carrier Bags

Objectives:
To make carrier bags from recycled paper.

Duration:
Two hours.

Materials:
Scrap paper, cardboard, string, glue and scissors.

Procedure:
1. Cut a piece of strong scrap paper measuring 20 cm by 40 cm.
2. Draw out dotted lines as shown in figure 1.
3. Fold the paper along the dotted lines.
4. Use glue to fasten points A and B.
5. Fold along the dotted line XY and open up the base.
6. Fold along the dotted lines PQ and ST. Use glue to fasten PQ and ST.
7. Open up the carrier bag.
8. Fold along the lines CD, EF, GH and IJ.
9. Cut a piece of cardboard of the same dimensions as the base and place it inside the bag.
10. Cut another two pieces of cardboard and place along the folds CG and EI.
11. Punch two holes each on the edge of CG and EI.
12. Attach string through the holes for the bag handles.
